Avril Lavigne brings the 'Greatest HIts Tour' and so much more to Camden for a SOLD OUT show

September 4, 2024

It may. be 2024 but Avril Lavigne is taking fans all the way back to 2004 with her "Greatest Hits Tour" this summer as she tours across North America with all the hits and countless sold out shows including her recent stop in Camden, NJ.

On a night that was quite literally 20 years in the making, Avril Lavigne’s return to the greater Philadelphia area fell on one of the nicest nights of the summer so far and she was greeted by a sold out Freedom Mortgage Pavilion. The atmosphere of the amphitheater was like stepping back in time to the "Warped Tour" era as fans wore Avril shirts of all eras ready to great the pop-punk queen when she arrived later that night. The vibes were good, the weather was perfect and the fans ranged from the "old guard" who grew up Avril Lavigne on their walkmans and the new generation of fans who have found her thanks to collabs with MGK and All Time Low. Regardless of their age or when they found the music, the crowd was ready to Lavigne to deliver a setlist packed with her most iconic tracks, proving once again why she remains a powerhouse in the music world.

The evening kicked off with a back to back run of tracks that included Lavigne's massive hits "Girlfriends" and "What The Hell."  It was clear from just a hand full of songs that Lavigne's performance would focus on her flawlessly vocal delivery of her songs and rely less on crazy stage antics that so many of peers rely on to mask their vocal struggle. Recently, some have been critical of Lavigne's stage presence but across the 17 song set she brought to Camden it was hard to see anything that was worthy of the criticism levied against here. From start to finish Lavigne belted out the lyrics whether it was a ballad or pop punk smasher of a song - one early highlight came during "Here's to Never Growing Up," The crowd, a sea of fans both old and new, sang along to every word, a testament to the enduring appeal of Lavigne’s music.

A standout moment of the concert was when Lavigne launched into "Bite Me," a track that showcases her unapologetic attitude and fierce independence. The song, newer but no less impactful, blended seamlessly with her earlier hits, reminding everyone that Lavigne’s music continues to evolve while staying true to her pop punk roots. It would be easy to say that Avril Lavigne has come back to take her throne over pop punk but it's even safer to say that she never left based on the massive success of this summer tour.

The night took an unexpected and thrilling turn when Simple Plan joined Lavigne on stage for a fan favorite performance of "Addicted." The collaboration was a perfect blend of their shared musical heritage, and the chemistry between the artists was undeniable. To no really surprise fans were ecastic about this addition as Simple Plan put on a killer set earlier in the night supporting Lavigne.

Avril Lavigne’s stop at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of her incredible career and the songs that have soundtracked the lives of millions. As the sold out crowd left the venue and made their way out into the night, it was clear that Lavigne’s legacy is not just intact but thriving, with her 'Greatest Hits Tour' serving as a reminder to all that she still is the "motherf*ckin' princess."

Stone Temple Pilots’ return to Pennsylvania for RockFest was more than just another stop on tour as the band isn't on the road promoting a new album or anything particular at the moment making this one off show truly special. Their festival headline slot was a true celebration of a band that has not only endured but continues to thrive. After more than twenty years of music, their headline performance in Grantville showed that Stone Temple Pilots are still writing their best chapters. When Jeff Gutt first stepped in as lead singer, fans were curious about how he would fill the shoes of such an iconic role of those who came before him. A few years and countless shows later, there’s no longer any question. Gutt has evolved into the frontman the band always seemed to be waiting for - powerful, confident, and endlessly engaging. His vocals are as sharp and reliable as ever, but his presence has grown into something magnetic. Whether pacing the stage with fiery energy or locking eyes with fans in the crowd, Gutt now owns every moment in the spotlight. It has reached a point where it is harder to imagine Stone Temple Pilots without Gutt versus any version prior to his arrival with the band. As always, Robert and Dean DeLeo provided the backbone of STP’s unmistakable sound. Their tight musicianship and playful energy were the perfect counterbalance to Gutt’s intensity as he sprinted around the stage (and even jump off into the crowd at one point). The brothers looked like they were having just as much fun as the crowd, trading riffs, smiles, and moments of pure musical joy throughout the night. It was a reminder that their chemistry is the true heartbeat of this band, and it’s never sounded stronger. The night was a journey through the full scope of Stone Temple Pilots’ career. Fans were treated to a perfect balance of old favorites, deeper cuts, and fresh material. “Big Bang Baby” was a standout moment of the set early on, soaring with Gutt’s vocals. Hearing the classics re-energized while newer songs slid in seamlessly made the set feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. If this RockFest performance was any indication, Stone Temple Pilots are in the middle of an exciting new era. For long-time listeners and new fans alike, that means one thing: it’s time to get ready for more shows, more songs, and more unforgettable nights like this one. What is next for Stone Temple Pilots may be up in the air but one thing is for certain, they remain one of the tightest live bands in the genre.
