Collective Soul and Switchfoot Unite for 2022 Summer Tour

August 3, 2022

Two of the biggest bands to come out of the 1990's have teamed up for one of the biggest summer tours of the year as Collective Soul and Switchfoot are traveling across the country together for massive crowds.

Collective Soul are a mainstay of the summer touring season as their run last year coming out of the pandemic was an iconic tour for the band, this year the band has raised the bar bringing Switchfoot out for the summer long trek to varying size venues through out the country.

The two bands hit a relatively new venue and market for their recent stop in Pennsylvania as the tour wrapped through Grantville, Pennsylvania for a Saturday night show at the Hollywood Casino's brand new outdoor stage. With both bands known for their incredible and technically impressive live performances fans were treated to an even better live experience as the casino's brand new stage was not only massive but featured state of the art sound and lighting - in addition to both band's touring lighting/backdrops. It was a perfect summer evening as the sun began to set across the stage as Switchfoot was the first of the two band's to get the crowd in Grantville of their feet and rocking in the sun.

Across a career spanning set Switchfoot gave the crowd a performance to remember as Jon Foreman left the stage numerous times to sing with the fans and even invited a young fan up early in the night to play guitar with them on "Stars." As the sun continued to set behind the stage the band began to glow golden as the haze cast around them on the stage created a beautiful visual for their already powerful set of songs. Fans were engaged through out the night but the close of the set is where things came alive as the crowd belted out the choruses of "Dare You To Move" and "Meant to Live" on the top of their lungs nearly overpowering the sound system at points. As the band left the stage with a triumphant bow fans made their way for snacks, beers and water during the quick set change to recharge for round two of this rock n' roll double header.

Just past 9:15 the stage lighting dramatically shifted and Collective Soul's gigantic logo banner was illuminated in the minutes that lead up to their arrival on stage - the crowd roared with approval as the banner came into full view on the massive outdoor stage. Led by Roland, Collective Soul ran through a powerful set that was heavily front loaded to get the crowd up off their feet and partying early on as their colossal hits "Heavy" and "Shine" were played within the first few songs of the night. By the time that "December" was played later in the set it was clear that fans were being treated to a once in a lifetime night under rising summer moon and they began to spill out from their seats into the aisles to sing together. Roland and the band embraced the chaos and continued on with their set seemingly even more inspired than before as the venue embraced a true rock n' roll spirit.

As the night came to an end the crowd departed Grantville, PA both satisfied with yet another stellar performance from Collective Soul and treated to an equally stellar performance from Switchfoot. The past year has been a whirlwind as shows have returned and it has brought artists and fans closer to ever as beautiful summer moments like this evening hit a little bit harder after we all went without them for so long.

But, live music is back and for the second summer in a row Collective Soul have dominated the touring circuit and we'd bet we see them rocking a stage again next summer to massive crowds - yet again.

Stone Temple Pilots’ return to Pennsylvania for RockFest was more than just another stop on tour as the band isn't on the road promoting a new album or anything particular at the moment making this one off show truly special. Their festival headline slot was a true celebration of a band that has not only endured but continues to thrive. After more than twenty years of music, their headline performance in Grantville showed that Stone Temple Pilots are still writing their best chapters. When Jeff Gutt first stepped in as lead singer, fans were curious about how he would fill the shoes of such an iconic role of those who came before him. A few years and countless shows later, there’s no longer any question. Gutt has evolved into the frontman the band always seemed to be waiting for - powerful, confident, and endlessly engaging. His vocals are as sharp and reliable as ever, but his presence has grown into something magnetic. Whether pacing the stage with fiery energy or locking eyes with fans in the crowd, Gutt now owns every moment in the spotlight. It has reached a point where it is harder to imagine Stone Temple Pilots without Gutt versus any version prior to his arrival with the band. As always, Robert and Dean DeLeo provided the backbone of STP’s unmistakable sound. Their tight musicianship and playful energy were the perfect counterbalance to Gutt’s intensity as he sprinted around the stage (and even jump off into the crowd at one point). The brothers looked like they were having just as much fun as the crowd, trading riffs, smiles, and moments of pure musical joy throughout the night. It was a reminder that their chemistry is the true heartbeat of this band, and it’s never sounded stronger. The night was a journey through the full scope of Stone Temple Pilots’ career. Fans were treated to a perfect balance of old favorites, deeper cuts, and fresh material. “Big Bang Baby” was a standout moment of the set early on, soaring with Gutt’s vocals. Hearing the classics re-energized while newer songs slid in seamlessly made the set feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. If this RockFest performance was any indication, Stone Temple Pilots are in the middle of an exciting new era. For long-time listeners and new fans alike, that means one thing: it’s time to get ready for more shows, more songs, and more unforgettable nights like this one. What is next for Stone Temple Pilots may be up in the air but one thing is for certain, they remain one of the tightest live bands in the genre.
