The Maine return to Philadelphia for the Alt 104.5 Winter Jawn

February 12, 2024

Philadelphia's favorite outdoor winter concert returned again in 2024 as Alt 104.5 hosted another 'Winter Jawn' concert at Xfinity Live that featured a headline performance from The Maine. The packed outdoor stage area was nearly full to capacity by the time they were due on stage and the crowd  buzzed with excitement as fans eagerly awaited The Maine's performance, one of the most anticipated acts of the day.  Despite the chilly winter air, the atmosphere was electric as the band took the stage, greeted by cheers and applause echoing throughout the venue. The band is no stranger to the stage at Xfinity Live as they played here at previous Alt 104.5 event in the summer of 2022,. Though 'Winter Jawn' is a winter event the weather didn't feel like it as Philadelphia was treated to temperatures in the high 50's for the warmest day of the year so far.

With a burst of energy, The Maine kicked off their set with the infectious rhythm of "dose no. 2," instantly captivating the audience with their signature blend of rock and pop punk. Lead singer John O'Callaghan's charismatic stage presence was magnetic as he engaged the crowd, his soulful voice resonating through the crisp and warm winter air.

As the band launched into fan favorites like "Black Butterflies & Deja Vu" and "Sticky," that saw O'Callaghan jump off the stage and head out in the crowd to sing with the people of Philadelphia. Guitarists Jared Monaco and Kennedy Brock delivered blistering riffs, while bassist Garrett Nickelsen and drummer Pat Kirch held down the rhythm with precision and flair.

In between songs, O'Callaghan took a moment to express gratitude to the fans of Philadelphia, thanking them for their continued support over the years as well as all the support of Alt 104.5 for their music since their humble beginnings playing outside of the Trocadero on a show. He was also quick to point out that the city was the crowd surfing capital of the world for them and he wasn't wrong as surfers came across the barrier all set long even in between songs.

As the final chords faded away, the crowd erupted into applause, showering The Maine with adoration and appreciation. The band took their bows, soaking in the moment before bidding farewell to their fans with promises to return this summer for another show in Philadelphia. Few events have the energy that Alt 104.5's 'Winter Jawn' offers and this year was no exception as The Maine delivered one of the most remarkable headline sets the free show as ever had.

Stone Temple Pilots’ return to Pennsylvania for RockFest was more than just another stop on tour as the band isn't on the road promoting a new album or anything particular at the moment making this one off show truly special. Their festival headline slot was a true celebration of a band that has not only endured but continues to thrive. After more than twenty years of music, their headline performance in Grantville showed that Stone Temple Pilots are still writing their best chapters. When Jeff Gutt first stepped in as lead singer, fans were curious about how he would fill the shoes of such an iconic role of those who came before him. A few years and countless shows later, there’s no longer any question. Gutt has evolved into the frontman the band always seemed to be waiting for - powerful, confident, and endlessly engaging. His vocals are as sharp and reliable as ever, but his presence has grown into something magnetic. Whether pacing the stage with fiery energy or locking eyes with fans in the crowd, Gutt now owns every moment in the spotlight. It has reached a point where it is harder to imagine Stone Temple Pilots without Gutt versus any version prior to his arrival with the band. As always, Robert and Dean DeLeo provided the backbone of STP’s unmistakable sound. Their tight musicianship and playful energy were the perfect counterbalance to Gutt’s intensity as he sprinted around the stage (and even jump off into the crowd at one point). The brothers looked like they were having just as much fun as the crowd, trading riffs, smiles, and moments of pure musical joy throughout the night. It was a reminder that their chemistry is the true heartbeat of this band, and it’s never sounded stronger. The night was a journey through the full scope of Stone Temple Pilots’ career. Fans were treated to a perfect balance of old favorites, deeper cuts, and fresh material. “Big Bang Baby” was a standout moment of the set early on, soaring with Gutt’s vocals. Hearing the classics re-energized while newer songs slid in seamlessly made the set feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. If this RockFest performance was any indication, Stone Temple Pilots are in the middle of an exciting new era. For long-time listeners and new fans alike, that means one thing: it’s time to get ready for more shows, more songs, and more unforgettable nights like this one. What is next for Stone Temple Pilots may be up in the air but one thing is for certain, they remain one of the tightest live bands in the genre.
