AFI return to Philadelphia with the 'Bodies Tour 2022'

November 7, 2022

After being delayed from 2021 to November of 2022, AFI finally made their way back to the Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia for a career defining performance in the city as part of the 'Bodes Tour 2022.'

Currently on tour supporting their 2021 release LP release of 'Bodies,' AFI's tour has seen them completed multiple dates across the country at this point with the setlist never being the same two nights in a row. In addition to their current headline routing the band also made appearances at the inaugural multi-weekend When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. While their festival sets may have been a bit more condensed due to time constrains the rest of the tour has been a master class of artistry as AFI has dug deep in their catalog for some special moments for their patient fans this tour who eagerly awaited these shows for sometime.

AFI fans in Philadelphia were treated to a career spanning setlist at the Franklin Music Hall that set the energy and pace of the evening early as the band dove straight in "Girl's Not Grey' to start off the evening early. The venue was packed to near capacity and the crowd surfers began flowing over early as Davey Havok swung his mic stand across the side on the opening song of the night before he knelt down on a riser to sing to the front row of the frantically excited crowd. Through out the set Havok showcased exactly why he is regarded as one of the best front man in the scene has he commanded the crowd all while jumping, twisting and flying around the stage as if he was still in his 20's.

Across an 18 song setlist AFI gave the fans a little bit of everything from the bigger hits including their 2006 chart topping "Miss Murder" and all the way to some songs that haven't made appearances in the setlist for sometime. These deeper cuts resulted in insane reactions from the audience as the band rattled through a stunning performance of "37mm" for the first time since 2017 earlier on in the night and then surprised the nearly sold out venue again later on with "The Leaving Song," also being played for the first time since 2017.

There is no denying that age has done wonders for all of AFI who continue to put on increasingly impressive performances even has they enter their third decade of existence. Havok's voice shines brighter than ever live and the fans commitment to the show gave the 'Bodies Tour' an energy that the Franklin Music Hall hasn't seen in years. Every moment of the set left a last memory in the massive crowd and there is no doubt that they'll be back for more AFI in Philadelphia as the band's storied touring legacy has brought them to town consistently with each album cycle. Though the wait was longer for this show than many would have liked it was certainly worth it as AFI have never been better than they currently are - and hopefully we will all be saying that again after their next tour as well.

Stone Temple Pilots’ return to Pennsylvania for RockFest was more than just another stop on tour as the band isn't on the road promoting a new album or anything particular at the moment making this one off show truly special. Their festival headline slot was a true celebration of a band that has not only endured but continues to thrive. After more than twenty years of music, their headline performance in Grantville showed that Stone Temple Pilots are still writing their best chapters. When Jeff Gutt first stepped in as lead singer, fans were curious about how he would fill the shoes of such an iconic role of those who came before him. A few years and countless shows later, there’s no longer any question. Gutt has evolved into the frontman the band always seemed to be waiting for - powerful, confident, and endlessly engaging. His vocals are as sharp and reliable as ever, but his presence has grown into something magnetic. Whether pacing the stage with fiery energy or locking eyes with fans in the crowd, Gutt now owns every moment in the spotlight. It has reached a point where it is harder to imagine Stone Temple Pilots without Gutt versus any version prior to his arrival with the band. As always, Robert and Dean DeLeo provided the backbone of STP’s unmistakable sound. Their tight musicianship and playful energy were the perfect counterbalance to Gutt’s intensity as he sprinted around the stage (and even jump off into the crowd at one point). The brothers looked like they were having just as much fun as the crowd, trading riffs, smiles, and moments of pure musical joy throughout the night. It was a reminder that their chemistry is the true heartbeat of this band, and it’s never sounded stronger. The night was a journey through the full scope of Stone Temple Pilots’ career. Fans were treated to a perfect balance of old favorites, deeper cuts, and fresh material. “Big Bang Baby” was a standout moment of the set early on, soaring with Gutt’s vocals. Hearing the classics re-energized while newer songs slid in seamlessly made the set feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. If this RockFest performance was any indication, Stone Temple Pilots are in the middle of an exciting new era. For long-time listeners and new fans alike, that means one thing: it’s time to get ready for more shows, more songs, and more unforgettable nights like this one. What is next for Stone Temple Pilots may be up in the air but one thing is for certain, they remain one of the tightest live bands in the genre.
