Blackbear brings the 'nothing matters tour' to Philadelphia

September 12, 2022

Less than a week after his release of "nothing matters," Blackbear has hit the roared touring in support of the release across the United States and stopped in Philadelphia for an iconic performance at the Fillmore.

The past few years have meteoric for Blackbear as he popularity was one the rise in the months leading into the pandemic and continued to rise during the long pause in touring. His songs went from being on the fringe of popularity in the scene to being front and center as they were used million of times on Tik Tok & other places. Shortly after Blackbear stayed on everyone's mind as he collaborated on several songs with Machine Gun Kelly across his two highly successful pop punk inspired albums. Fast forward to September of 2022 and Blackbear is not only at the forefront of the genre but is also enjoying new found happiness on a personal level as he celebrates his sobriety. Prior the start of the tour Blackbear did several high profile press hits including a performance on James Corden's Late Show to spotlight the single "Toxic Energy." Every music site in America has something to say about this unique artist and his fans seem ravenous to learn more about their favorite artists as every article on social becomes a real time message board between fans.

Blackbear's "nothing matters tour" in Philadelphia was a cutting edge spectacle of visual and lighting overload, combined with a near perfect vocal performance from him that sent the crowd into a fever dream all night. At a glance the 28 song setlist seems like a simple discography spanning live experience but. close look at the show spotlights the creative thought Blackbear put into constructed this show for his fans.

The night started off with massive LED screens bursting to life as he and his band quickly ran through a handful of songs including "queen of broken hearts, "chateau" and "Memory." The set was structured like an emotional rollercoaster as things started off at the peak with everyone in full party mode before things took a dip back into a low energy (yet still exciting) acoustic jam of some of Blackbear's most emotional songs including "idfc."

The night would follow this rise and fall set up through out the entire evening and even included a stellar set of "features" that Blackbear has been on in the past few years that were a lot of fun to visit during his show. As the night went on the crowd, most of whom were wearing Blackbear tour merch, had the time of their lives - often singing so loudly it was louder than the venue's sound system.

Blackbear is one of the scenes greatest rising stars right now and his Philadelphia showcased the multi-dimensional artist that he truly is. From the studio where he records some of the most raw and real lyrical content of the decade to the stage where he gives his fans a once in a life time experience - few can match his creative output. We are early in the "nothing matters" era but if the past two weeks are any indication the sky is the limit for Blackbear.

Stone Temple Pilots’ return to Pennsylvania for RockFest was more than just another stop on tour as the band isn't on the road promoting a new album or anything particular at the moment making this one off show truly special. Their festival headline slot was a true celebration of a band that has not only endured but continues to thrive. After more than twenty years of music, their headline performance in Grantville showed that Stone Temple Pilots are still writing their best chapters. When Jeff Gutt first stepped in as lead singer, fans were curious about how he would fill the shoes of such an iconic role of those who came before him. A few years and countless shows later, there’s no longer any question. Gutt has evolved into the frontman the band always seemed to be waiting for - powerful, confident, and endlessly engaging. His vocals are as sharp and reliable as ever, but his presence has grown into something magnetic. Whether pacing the stage with fiery energy or locking eyes with fans in the crowd, Gutt now owns every moment in the spotlight. It has reached a point where it is harder to imagine Stone Temple Pilots without Gutt versus any version prior to his arrival with the band. As always, Robert and Dean DeLeo provided the backbone of STP’s unmistakable sound. Their tight musicianship and playful energy were the perfect counterbalance to Gutt’s intensity as he sprinted around the stage (and even jump off into the crowd at one point). The brothers looked like they were having just as much fun as the crowd, trading riffs, smiles, and moments of pure musical joy throughout the night. It was a reminder that their chemistry is the true heartbeat of this band, and it’s never sounded stronger. The night was a journey through the full scope of Stone Temple Pilots’ career. Fans were treated to a perfect balance of old favorites, deeper cuts, and fresh material. “Big Bang Baby” was a standout moment of the set early on, soaring with Gutt’s vocals. Hearing the classics re-energized while newer songs slid in seamlessly made the set feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. If this RockFest performance was any indication, Stone Temple Pilots are in the middle of an exciting new era. For long-time listeners and new fans alike, that means one thing: it’s time to get ready for more shows, more songs, and more unforgettable nights like this one. What is next for Stone Temple Pilots may be up in the air but one thing is for certain, they remain one of the tightest live bands in the genre.
